Numerous laboratory and road tests have shown that the HPE chain has a life span at least equivalent, if not superior, to that of a traditional Z-Ring chain that is regularly lubricated, while at the same time limiting the power losses linked to the transmission. This new process eliminates the need for periodic lubrication every 1000 km. Amorphous Tetrahedral Carbon (ta-C), a hydrogen-free coating, currently considered the most advanced Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating, is applied to the surfaces of HPE bushings and rollers. The ta-C coating combines the high hardness of the treated surface with a low coefficient of friction, thus reducing energy dissipation in the secondary drive and increasing its efficiency. The elimination of cleaning operations and lubricant splashes also minimises the impact on the environment. The innovative ta-C coating process was developed through intensive R&D by Regina technicians directly at the Cernusco Lombardone plant in Italy. "The elimination of periodic lubrication and the increased efficiency of the transmission raise the HPE chain to an extremely advanced technological level compared to traditional chains, unthinkable until now and unmatched on the market" said Paolo Garbagnati, CEO of Regina.
